On a recent visit to Austin, we sat down with @themindwillnotletgo for a two night interview that produced some wonderful insights into the upcoming album, burnout. The first interview covers when the idea began, some of the influences and the production process.

One of the last songs recorded as Alexander Inmate before my move to Austin was Fieldtrip. Leading up on vocals was the immortal James Lambeth, groovy Greg Dobbs on Guitars, me on bass with some secondary vocals and we were all corralled by the legendary Alan Hiserodt. I dedicate this video to two of our lost bandmates. Even though I wrote half of the lyrics, I still do not know what the song is about. James was very lyrically mysterious. So in making this video, I grabbed a bunch of stock footage and tried to tell a story that has nothing to do with the song. Hope you enjoy!

"Sleeping" from the album Cliffhanger, was recorded in one take in '93 on Alans VHS recorder. This song features the original line up of Klipspringer - Ty, Danny and Matt. The warped VHS quality led me to put some punk rockers on top of it as well as boats, water, sky and shit. I totally forgot this video existed until I found it last week in my archives. Just had to bring it back to life.

Coming hot off of the nub video press is this gem from 1996 from Norman’s own Hoot Gipson. This recording found me at the pinnacle of my technical prowess at the same time a band that really had their shit together came in and we captured magic. The musicality of the band mixed with the cultivated sound of their instruments, proved to be a wonderful combination in the studio. From the opener “Four Square” featured with this video to the closer of “Strong Arm”, the use of lyrical bass lines and guitar distortions mixed with clean strings at the same time are only surpassed by how close I was able to get the hi hat mic in. This trio had one of the largest sounds around.
